In the Dutch literary monthly “Maatstaf”
[Criterion] of September 1958 an article was published
entitled: “Van Gogh's Dramatic Years in The Hague”,
written by Dr. J. Hulsker, Head of the Arts Department of the
Ministry of Education, Arts and Sciences in Holland. He has
courteously granted permission to use the results of his
thorough investigation as to the dating of Vincent's letters.
He looked for the relation between expressions Vincent used in
connection with indications like: Sunday evening, last Friday,
etc. In this way he arrived at the following dates:
