FURTHER DECORATION in the Dukes gallery was carried out by the brothers Dosso and Battista Dossi, who painted a frieze of ten scenes depicting stories from The Aeneid together with ceiling decoration. Most of these paintings are now lost, but three are shown at right: Aeneas and Achates on the Libyan Coast (top), The Sicilian Games (middle), and Aeneas in the Elysian Fields (bottom). |
