In particular, one esoteric detail has perplexed scholars of this picture. Who painted the pheasant? The paint layer is higher around the bird, suggesting that the pheasant is older than the surrounding trees. But that evidence itself proves nothing. We encourage you to look at the birds by Bellini, Dosso, and Titian, and to form you own opinion.
